GETTING IGHY WITH IT Man Utd pay £10m to extend Odion Ighalo’s loan until January after reaching agreement with Shanghai Shenhua
MANCHESTER UNITED are forking out £10million to extend Odion Ighalo’s stay until the end of January.
And they hope it will buy some breathing space in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s hunt for a long-term striker.
United are believed to have agreed another loan fee in the region of £6m with Ighalo’s Chinese parent club Shanghai Shenhua.
In addition they will continue to pay about half his £250,000-a-week wages until January 31.
Crucially, it means United can take their time as they hunt for a centre-forward — one of boss Solskjaer’s top priorities earlier this year.
Lyon’s ex-Fulham and Celtic hotshot Moussa Dembele, 23, has been on the radar.
Securing Nigerian Ighalo, 30, for eight months will mean Solskjaer can use funds on other areas.
The coronavirus crisis has worked in their favour with the Ighalo deal.
